Beryl Cook, OBE (10 September 1926 – 28 May 2008) was a well-known British painter recognized for her unique paintings. Her humorous pieces captured ordinary people in their daily activities, whether it be socializing at a pub, shopping, attending a hen party, or enjoying a picnic by the sea or in other countries. Despite lacking formal training, she only began painting in her thirties. While she was shy and reserved, her art often portrayed bold and outgoing individuals who were quite different from herself.

Cook was greatly inspired by fellow English artist Stanley Spencer as seen in her compositions and the use of robust and large figures. Another influential artist for her was Edward Burra, known for his depictions of seedy cafés, nightclubs, and marginalized groups such as sailors and prostitutes. However, unlike Burra, Cook did not focus on the darker elements of these settings. Her almost photographic memory also played a significant role in her artistry. Despite being highly celebrated and renowned as one of the top contemporary British artists, Cook never gained recognition from the art establishment.

Beryl Cook's official website, run by her son John and granddaughter Sophie since her passing in 2008, offers a glimpse into her life.
